Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage

The term "Swedish Massage" refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. Swedish massage was developed in the 1700's by a Swedish doctor named Per Henrik Ling. Purpose of Swedish Massage? The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. It increases circulation without increasing heart load. It stretches the ligaments and tendons keeping them supple and pliable. Swedish massage also stimulates the skin and nervous system and soothes the nerves themselves at the same time. It reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested in a regular program for stress management. It also has many specific medical uses. Swedish Massage Techniques? Swedish massage techniques include: long strokes, kneading, friction, tapping, percussion, vibration, effleurage, and shaking motions. The usually sequence of techniques are: Effleurage: Gliding strokes with the palms, thumbs and/or fingertips Petrissage: Kneading movements with the hands, thumbs and/or fingers Friction: Circular pressures with the palms of hands, thumbs and/or fingers Vibration: Oscillatory movements that shake or vibrate the body Percussion: Brisk hacking or tapping Passive and active movements: Bending and stretching Benefits of Swedish Massage? Swedish massage feels good, is relaxing and invigorating. It affects the nerves, muscles, glands, and circulation, while promoting health and well being.

Cranial Cervical Release Technique

Cranial Cervical Release Technique

Craniosacral relaxation technique is a gentle, hands-on method of relaxing the neck where it meets the head or cranium. It utilizes the principles of Craniosacral therapy or CST which a technique of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including: -Migraine Headaches -Chronic Neck and Back Pain -Motor-Coordination Impairments -Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries -Scoliosis -Chronic Fatigue -Emotional Difficulties -Stress and Tension-Related Problems -Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders -Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ) -Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder -Post-Surgical Dysfunction

Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage is a specialty massage that uses smooth, heated stones. The stones are basalt, a black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat very well. The stones are used in two ways during the massage. One is to impart heat onto the body by laying stones on top of you. Stone layout typically will be along both sides of the spine, or along the chakra centers on top. Baseball sized stones would be placed in the hands. While these layout stones are delivering concentrated centers of heat, the therapist is simultaneously massaging you with oiled, heated stones held in the palm of the hand with firm strokes along the muscles of the legs, arms, and torso areas. An authentic hot stone massage is not simply the "gliding" of heated stones lightly upon the surface of the skin, but rather the stones are used as tools to deliver effective tissue and muscle massage at a pressure level comfortable to you. You can request light, medium or deep pressure, which is the beauty of the hot stone massage technique. It can be customized in an instant at your request. The hardness of the stones makes for a fantastic deep tissue massage. The heat from the stones relaxes muscles, increase the blood flow to the area being worked on which further accelerates the healing process. The heat also greatly aids in mental relaxation. You should book a minumum of 60 minutes for you treatment, however a 90 minute session is recommended to receive the full benefits of hot stone massage. This will allow the therapist optimal time to deliver a deeply relaxing and therapeutic effect to your mind and entire body.
