  Relaxed in a specialized pregnancy table, many methods of massage are both effective and safe prenatally and during labor and postpartum periods of women's pregnancies. The therapeutic bodywork focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be as her body goes through dramatic changes of the childbirth experience. Prenatally, specific techniques can reduce pregnancy discomforts and concerns and enhance the physiological and emotional well-being of both mother and fetus. Prenatal/Pregnancy massage helps provide relaxation, relieve stress on weight-bearing joints (ankles, low back and pelvis), alleviate neck and back pain caused by muscle imbalance and weakness, assist in maintaining proper posture, assist in removal of unwanted fluids and toxins to help in avoiding toxemia, and to prepare the birthing muscles used during childbirth. It is not recommended to get a massage in the first trimester.
